Staged Reading at the Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach

Description

When in 1937 the school girl Sophie Scholl met the young officer of the Wehrmacht, Fritz Hartnagel, she was just 16 years old. Both had hardly the possibility to get to know each other in person, which is why the correspondence gives such an insightful view on the different phases of the friendship and relationship of the young couple: next to the desire of nearness and freedom, the letters express different political views – and their ability to act responsibly in times of war and dictatorial regime.
While Sophie and Hans Scholl fight against the NS regime through the resistance group „Die weiße Rose“ (“the white rose”) in 1942/43, Fritz Hartnagel was trapped in encircled Stalingrad. By the time he receives Scholl's final letter, her execution had already been carried out.

Short description

Staged Reading at the Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach

Description

Arabic poems by Mahmoud Darwish

The reading is based on Darwish's two books of poems: State of Siege and Fewer Roses. His compilations of poems alway ends with the desired peace between Israel and Palestine. In his lyric, Darwish describes Palestine as an open wound, a broken mirror, or a landscape full of blood and stones, yet his poetic brilliance can just as easily be seen in his descriptions of everyday luxeries, as for instance the preparation of a cup of coffee.

Participants: Eva Spott, Daniel Minetti und Bruno Winzen
Director: Christine Schmidle
Dramaturg: Julia Optiz
